NEW ORLEANS – The LSU New Orleans golf team will look to bounce back from a rough start to the season when they travel to Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La. for the Argent Financial Classic on Sept. 27-29.
The program is very familiar with Squire Creek Country Club. When freshman
Fynn Wanke tees off on Sunday morning it will mark the 15
th appearance by the Privateers on the course since 1992. The Privateers won both the 2008 and 2009 Squire Creek Intercollegiates and played there twice during the 2009-2010 season.
Ken Looper holds the lowest round shot by a Privateer at Squire Creek - a 67 during the second round in 2008. Looper and Sebastian Szirmak hold the lowest 54-hole score by a Privateer on the course - both carded a 211 in 2009.
New Orleans shot a 275 during the second round of the 2008 Squire Creek Intercollegiate - the third lowest team round in program history. Their three-round score of 853 in the same tournament is tied for the seventh best in program history.
Fifth-year
Gabriel Gallego is set to make his season debut after redshirting last season. Gallego last played in A-State Spring Invitational 529 days ago. In his career on the Lakefront, Gallego has played 27 rounds over 11 tournaments with an average of 77.6. Wanke (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) is set to make his collegiate debut.
It will be the second straight three-day event for the Privateers, after the Sandestin Collegiate Classic took place on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to open the season two weeks ago.
FORMAT
The teams will play 18 holes of golf on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. The Privateers will be paired with Jacksonville State and the Louisiana Tech B team during the opening round.
The following schools are confirmed to compete in the event: Louisiana Tech (hosts), East Texas A&M, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Louisiana, Nicholls State, North Texas, Tarleton State, Texas State, Troy, ULM, and West Florida.
Louisiana Tech will play an A and B team, while Lamar, Louisiana, North Texas, Texas State, ULM and West Florida will also send independent golfers to Squire Creek Country Club.

LSU New Orleans golf opened the season with a 14
th place finish at the Sandestin Collegiate Classic on Wednesday afternoon. The Privateers used rounds of 295, 306 and 300 to finish with a score of 901.
Baron Vollmer got his collegiate career off to a solid start with rounds of 70, 71 and 75. He made nine birdies and 32 pars to lead the Privateers in both categories on his debut.

LAST TIME AT SQUIRE CREEK COUNTRY CLUB
Grayson Gilbert finished the tournament tied for 15th place individually and had the best round of the tournament for the Privateers shooting a three under par 69 during the second round. As a squad the Privateers sank 42 birdies, 12 of which came from Gilbert.
