SAN JOSE, Calif. – The LSU New Orleans Privateers grabbed an early lead in the match but could not hold off the Pacific Tigers in a 3-1 loss (23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-22) on Saturday at Spartan Gym.
 
The Privateers got out to a quick start in the push to take the match to a deciding fifth set. LSU New Orleans led 6-1 behind three points from Laura Piva. However, Pacific went on a 6-0 run to take the lead and they stayed in front for the remainder of the set.
 
Armie Hall keyed an opening set victory to get the Privateers on the board first. The true freshman had six kills and hit .417 with the last of those kills finishing off an opening set that did not see either side lead by more than four points.
 
The Privateer block also rejected four attempts at the net by Pacific hitters in the first set. Nyakuak Lual was in on three blocks while Hall was a part of two.
 
Pacific established an early lead by getting out to a 10-6 edge in the second set. The Privateers were able to stay within range over the next 10 rallies, but the Tigers pulled away to even the match. Pacific went on a 9-3 run to finish the set which was set up by five kills, two aces and a block in that span.
 
With the match tied at 1-1, the Tigers came out hot in the third set to grab the lead back. They registered seven kills to just one error in their first 13 attempts and had a run of seven straight points to build a 15-6 lead.
 
The Tigers coasted from there as they outpaced the Privateers in kills (16-9) and digs (19-10) to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Hall finished with a team-high 16 kills along with five digs and three blocks. Piva added 11 kills and was in on three of the team's nine blocks. Nyakuak Lual led the way in blocks with six total. Mia Lopez led the way in digs on the night with 15. Defne Eciroglu finished with 20 assists.
