SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose State Spartans used substantial runs in the early portion of each set to defeat the LSU New Orleans Privateers 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-15) on Sunday at Spartan Gym.
The Spartans got a pair of service aces early from Fatimah Hall that helped spark an 8-0 run to begin the afternoon. Tatiana Robinson also contributed two kills before the Privateers got on the board. San Jose State engineered another run of six consecutive points to create further distance in a first set where they recorded four service aces.
LSU New Orleans once again found themselves in an uphill climb after the early portion of the second set. San Jose State began the set with an 8-2 run as four different Spartans recorded a kill.
The Privateers went on a four-point spurt of their own to trim the San Jose State lead to 13-9, which was capped by an
Elani Ratchkovska kill but that was as close as they got for the remainder of the set.
Set three saw another early surge by the Spartans as they scored 12 of the first 16 points. They had three service aces in that span and for the match, San Jose State recorded 13 service aces.
Zuzana Kosikova finished with 11 kills to lead the Spartan offense. Ryleeh Tuauolo had seven kills in nine attempts and led the team in blocks with three total.
INSIDE THE BOX
Laura Piva led the Privateer attack with 10 kills and hit .471 for the afternoon.
Armie Hall had six kills and
Olivia Bartrina finished with four kills along with five digs.
Mia Lopez had six digs on the day.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will take part in a tournament hosted by West Georgia next weekend. They will also face Mercer and Gardner-Webb.
