NEW ORLEANS - The LSU New Orleans cross country program kicked off the 2026 season with a pair of fourth place finishes at the Battle for New Orleans on Friday night at Lake Oaks Park.
Landen Juneau led the way for the Privateer men with a personal-best time of 15:41.6. The Geismar native was almost 26 seconds faster than his time on the same course as a freshman last season. He improved 13 spots on his placement from the 2025 Battle for New Orleans and notched the second top-20 cross country finish of his young career.
Joining Juneau in setting a personal best on the men's side was sophomore
Grant Young, who finished in 39th place with a time of 17:07.2. Young shaved almost a minute and 20 seconds off his time in last year's Battle for New Orleans, and his 39th-place finish was 23 places better than last season.
Joshua Guidry finished in 28th with a time of 16:25.0,
Alex Williams finished 30th with a time of 16:32.7, Trevin LeBeouf finished 34th with a time of 16:45.3, and
Brandt Blanchard finished 35th with a time of 16:54.8 to round out the scoring for the Privateer men.
New Orleans' 109 points placed them ahead of Nicholls, Southeastern, Southern and Dillard. Both Guidry and LeBouef made their collegiate debuts on Friday evening.
Petra Imre paced a young Privateer women's team at the Battle of New Orleans. The Hungarian finished in 12th place in 14:36.3. Her 12th-place finish was 13 spots better than her finish in the Battle for New Orleans last season and was faster than four of the five LSU Tigers in the race. Her time was also the 14th-fastest 4K in program history.
Sophomore
Alexa Daverio finished 27th with a time of 15:28.1, 12 places better than last season. A trio of freshmen making their collegiate debuts rounded out the scoring for the New Orleans women.
Layla Warren finished in 31st place with a time of 15:42.9,
Madalynn Salsman finished in 38th place with a time of 16:00.1, and
Ella Narhi finished in 39th place with a time of 16:02.4.
The women's total of 117 points tied them with South Alabama and placed them ahead of Nicholls, Loyola (New Orleans), Southeastern, Southern and Dillard. Both the Privateer men and women improved on their points total and placement from last season's meet.
Cohost Tulane swept both the men's and women's team championships, with each team scoring 18 points. Green Wave runners Silas Kiptanui (14:21.7) and Petra Dos Santas (13:47.9) won the individual titles. Kiptanui now has the third and fourth fastest marks on the 5K course at Lake Oaks Park.
The Privateers return to action on Sept. 18 when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for a Pre-Regional meet hosted by Florida State. The women will run 6K starting at 6:40 a.m. CST, with the men's 8K set to follow shortly after.
