NEW ORLEANS – The LSU New Orleans Privateers new spirit program is excited to announce recruiting opportunities and ways for interested students to sign up for the revamped Privateers cheer and dance squad, directed by Italia Moore.
 
There will be an open clinic from 6:30-8:30 PM which is open to current LSU New Orleans Students on Sept. 2. A tryouts/recruitment clinic will be held for all current students plus all current high school seniors and juniors on Sept. 5 from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
 
Also, recruitment videos for dance are being accepted until Jan. 1.
 
Moore's vision for the future includes developing a year-round recruiting strategy, creating an exciting fan experience inspired by professional sports, build a visible presence across campus and the New Orleans community, and develop the Privateers Spirit Program into a unified department with a long-term goal of collegiate competition.
 
"This is such an exciting time to join the Spirit Program because we're building something completely new with competition as a major focus," said Moore. "We're looking for cheerleaders and dancers who are hard-working, coachable and excited to grow as both athletes and as a team."
 
Moore went on to state "These athletes will also contribute to overall campus pride. This first group will have the unique opportunity to help shape the culture, traditions and competitive future of the program from the very beginning. If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, I would love to see you at tryouts."

ABOUT LSU NEW ORLEANS
In July of 2026 the University of New Orleans rejoined the LSU system and rebranded to "LSU New Orleans" bringing together two powerful brands - the purple and gold of LSU with the unbreakable spirit of New Orleans. The transition marks a return to the LSU family for the University - a place it called home from 1958-2011. Athletic teams will remain the Privateers and continue to compete in the Southland Conference.
