NEW ORLEANS - LSU New Orleans Director of Athletics Dr. Michael Giorlando is excited to announce that long time Southeastern and Southland Conference administrator Andew Bechac has joined his staff as Deputy Athletics Director.

"We are thrilled that Andrew Bechac is our new Deputy AD," said Giorlando.
 
"Andrew is the consummate athletic administration professional serving eighteen years at Southeastern Louisiana University's athletic department, including a three-year stint as Deputy Athletic Director. For the past three years he served as an Associate Commissioner at the Southland Conference."
 
On the Lakefront Bechac will assist in the daily management and administration of the athletic department and serve on the department's executive leadership team. He will provide direct oversight and administration to several operational units within the department and will represent the athletic director at various on-campus and community events as needed.
 
He arrives on the Lakefront after a successful three-year stint at the Southland Conference office in Frisco, Texas. As Associate Commissioner for Football and Championships, he served as the league's primary liaison for baseball, football, men's golf, and the men's and women's basketball championships.
 
Prior to his time at the league office, Bechac spent 18 years at Southeastern, beginning in 2005 as an internal operations assistant before being promoted to Assistant AD for internal operations in 2006, Senior Associate AD for internal operations in 2011, and Deputy Director of Athletics in 2020.
 
During his tenure in Hammond, he oversaw budget planning, personnel management, and scheduling for all athletic events and facilities. He also assisted with football scheduling and contract development. He served on several athletic committees and played a major role in facility upgrades at Southeastern.
 
Bechac was also a key member of the operations team for the NCAA FCS Football Championship during his time in Hammond and served as the athletic liaison between the Lions' athletic department and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
 
Southeastern completed renovations and improvements to Strawberry Stadium - including a new playing surface and renovated press box - North Oaks Park, the Naquin Strength and Conditioning Center/North Oaks Nutrition Center, the Dick and Glory Sharp Academic Center, the Southeastern Track Complex, the Southeastern Tennis Complex, their Hall of Champions, and the hitting facility at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Multiple new videoboards and scoreboards were also added during his tenure.
 
From 2004-2005, Bechac was a Championships Assistant at the Sun Belt Conference, where he helped plan and execute multiple conference championship events across a variety of sports. During his time at the Sun Belt, he was instrumental in the league's implementation of instant replay review in football and played a role in NCAA compliance. Bechac also assisted the New Orleans Sports Foundation with the New Orleans Bowl during his time on Poydras St.
 
He has served in a variety of athletic administration, coaching, and teaching roles throughout the New Orleans metropolitan area, including stints at The St. Paul School (football and baseball), Teurlings Catholic High School (football and baseball), Clifton L. Ganus High School (football, baseball, girls' basketball, and girls' track), Pope John Paul II High School (football, boys' soccer, basketball, and weightlifting), Northshore High School (football and baseball), and Bogalusa High School (football and weightlifting). He served as the Bogalusa school system's Director of Athletics and Physical Education from 2002 to 2004.
 
Bechac is a member of the American Football Coaches Association, the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, and serves on the selection committee for the NFL Players Association and NCAA Coaching Internship Program. He has also served as the on-site director for the Southland Conference golf, softball, and track and field championships, as well as the NCAA FCS football playoffs.
 
Andrew holds a Master of Science in Secondary Education from Loyola University New Orleans, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2003 and was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. He also earned his bachelor's degree from Loyola in 1990, where he was a member of the Wolfpack baseball team.
 
He currently resides in Hammond, La., with his wife, Margaret. The couple has three children -Meredith, Camille, and Evan. In his personal time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

In July of 2026 the University of New Orleans rejoined the LSU system and rebranded to "LSU New Orleans" bringing together two powerful brands - the purple and gold of LSU with the unbreakable spirit of New Orleans. Athletic teams will remain the Privateers and continue to compete in the Southland Conference.
