KENNER, La. – Teya Gibbs and Brooke Dow made it to the quarterfinals in the Bid Division and were just one win short of earning a bid to the AVCA Pairs Championships as part of the LSU New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team's performance at the AVCA Bid Event hosted at Coconut Beach.

Dow and Gibbs split a pair of matches in pool play on Saturday. Their win came against McNeese's #2 pair of Reese Russell and Averie Threet which they accomplished in straight sets (21-17, 21-19).

As luck would have it, their first match in the elimination bracket was against the Privateers' #1 pair of Cassie and Ellie Sieling who also went 1-1 in their pool with a  win over Southeastern's #2 pair of Emma Neville and Mia Sauers.

Dow and Gibbs beat the Sieling sisters 25-23, 21-18 to advance to the quarters where they were knocked out of the main draw by Tulane's #2 pair. As it turned out, all semifinalists earned an automatic bid to the AVCA Pairs Championships in Huntsville, Ala. which is to take place in early November.

Cassie and Ellie made a run to the finals of the consolation bracket after going 1-1 in their pool. On Sunday, the sisters won matches against ULM's #2 pair and the top pair from Southern Miss. In their last match of the day, they were defeated by the #1 pair from Tulane of Skylar Ensign and Katherine Hansen.

In the remaining brackets, the Privateers put up solid performances across the board. Caden Carter and Evy Neill teamed up to win third place in the blue bracket silver playoffs. Carter and Neill scored a comeback win over the Southeastern pair of Abby Kolder and Brianna Litolff, winning 15-21, 21-19, 15-13.

Jordan Madsen and Molly Perry also scored a win over Southeastern in the aqua bracket pool play on Saturday as they defeated Ally Alfonso and Frida Espeseth by the score of 21-19, 21-19. Madsen and Perry repeated the feat on Sunday, beating the same pair 21-12, 21-19.

The duo went up against another Privateer pair of Maya Bleeks and Malia Kampfe in the final. An intense three-set battle went to Bleeks and Kampfe who won 19-21, 21-15, 15-8. Bleeks and Kampfe also beat a Southeastern duo to set up the all-Privateer consolation final in the aqua bracket when they beat Bella Bravata and Avery Simon.
