Four Privateers Register Double-Digits in Digs, Privateers Fall to East Texas A&M

COMMERCE, Texas – Armie Hall had 17 kills and the LSU New Orleans Privateers had four players with 10 or more digs but it wasn't enough as they lost 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19) to the East Texas A&M Lions on Thursday at The Field House.

In the fourth set, East Texas A&M raced to an 8-3 lead, which included a pair of service aces. The Lions built the lead to as large as seven points, but the Privateers came right back.

Armie Hall had five kills and a block in a stretch that saw the Privateers close the East Texas A&M down to one at 13-12. Though the Privateers stayed within range, East Texas A&M kept their heads in front and eventually gained enough separation down the stretch to finish the match in their favor and move to 2-1 in conference play.

The Privateers and Lions began on fairly level terms until East Texas A&M notched the first big run of the night on their side. After an Ariana Brown kill got the Lions on serve trailing 6-5, East Texas A&M scored the next seven points to surge ahead 12-6.

East Texas A&M never lost command for the remainder of the set as the Privateers could not draw closer than within six points. The Lions had 13 kills in the first set to the Privateers' seven.

LSU New Orleans got to 15 first with a three-point lead. Karina Barzanova notched a kill and the Privateers were up 15-12 behind 11 kills at that juncture of the set. The Privateers managed to keep themselves in the lead down the stretch and back-to-back kills by Ava Frerman and Karina Barzanova vaulted LSU New Orleans to a set victory and a tie score in the match at 1-1.

A tight third set saw neither team get away in the early stages. The Lions held the biggest advantage in the set when they led by four points at three different occasions in the set.

East Texas A&M broke a 20-20 tie with a 5-1 spurt keyed by two kills from Brown, which pushed the Lions to a 2-1 lead in the match.
