NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane Green Wave used late scoring runs in each of the first two sets to establish momentum and defeat the LSU New Orleans Privateers 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) on Sunday afternoon at Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Privateers were within striking distance after a three-point spurt pulled them to within one on the scoreboard. A kill by
Ava Frerman put the Privateers on the service line trailing 16-15.
Tulane responded by scoring on nine of the next 11 rallies to close out the set in their favor. The Green Wave had six kills in that stretch including two from Charlee Solomon.
The Privateers got out to an even start in the second set and used a mini run of their own to push ahead 15-12 on the scoreboard after a kill by
Elani Ratchkovska that took both teams to the technical timeout.
From there, Tulane went on their biggest run of the match as they scored on 12 consecutive rallies. Riley Tucker had four kills in that span to put the Green Wave on the brink of set point, which they converted two rallies later to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The first 16 rallies of the third set were split evenly, but Tulane gradually pulled away on the scoreboard to finish out the match.
Tulane was leading 14-11 after a Privateer kill from
Nyakuak Lual. From there, they went on a 9-2 run to extend their lead to double digits. Madison McLin scored a kill four rallies later to put the finishing touches on the Green Wave's 18
th consecutive win in the all-time series.
Tucker (11) and McLin (10) each notched double figures in kills. Solomon finished with 37 assists and four service aces. Makena Lim had 25 digs and Lauryn Mack finished with 13 digs.
INSIDE THE BOX
Armie Hall led the Privateer offense with nine kills.
Ryan Williams added seven kills.
Rylie Hallman had 11 assists and 11 digs on the day.
Peyton Cole and
Ava Frerman co-led the team in digs with 12 each.
