Hall, Lopez Shine in Collegiate Debuts as Privateers Sweep Alcorn in Season Opener

NEW ORLEANSArmie Hall recorded 20 kills in her collegiate debut and the LSU New Orleans Privateers scored a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-23) victory in their season opener on Friday night at the Human Performance Center.

After the abundance of offense Hall provided, it was a block that she and Alana Pierce were in on that finished off the night in favor of the Privateers who had four of their five rejections in the final set.

The Privateers were trailing 12-7 in the third set, the first time all night they had faced a deficit. However, two big service rotations from Defne Eciroglu and Laura Piva turned the tables as the Privateers went on a 12-4 run over the next 16 rallies to surge in front 19-16.

The Lady Braves came back and tied the score three times down the stretch with the last occurrence coming after a Courtney Carter kill which leveled the score at 23-23. The Lady Braves were called for a net violation on the next rally ahead of the match winning block by the Privateers.

Mia Lopez helped anchor a Privateer defense that finished with 50 digs on the night. Lopez, who also made her collegiate debut in the libero jersey had a team best 19 digs on the night.

The Privateers separated to a 23-16 advantage after a tight first set that saw the Privateers continuously have an answer every time the Lady Braves pulled to within a point. Alcorn State went on a four-point spurt, but Hall had two kills that helped put the opening set away.

LSU New Orleans was in control from the outset in the second set. The Privateers raced to a 15-5 lead, which was spearheaded by Hall and Alana Pierce who combined for five kills in that stretch. The Lady Braves scored six straight points while fending off set point, but the Privateers put the finishing touches on the set through an Olivia Bartrina kill.

INSIDE THE BOX
Piva finished with 13 kills to also land in double figures in that department on the night. Hall sported an attack percentage of .613 in 31 attempts with just one error. Bartrina had 11 digs along with five kills. Eciroglu had 27 assists and five digs.
