Volleyball Set to Host Pair of South Texas Schools

NEW ORLEANS – The LSU New Orleans Privateers will play a home week against a pair of South Texas schools when they take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday and UTRGV on Saturday. Both matches will be carried on ESPN+.

The Privateers lost in three sets to UIW at home in their last outing. Armie Hall had seven kills to lead the offense, but the Privateers were outpaced 42-25 in the kill department by the Cardinals.

Hall is averaging 3.28 kills per set overall on the season and that number has ticked up in conference only matches. Against Southland opponents, Hall is averaging 3.55 kills per set over 27 sets played.

Nyakuak Lual has registered the fifth most solo blocks (14) of any Southland player this year. Her 62 total blocks rank seventh in the league. Lual is averaging 0.93 rejections per set which also ranks seventh in the conference. Lual has recorded 30 total blocks over the last eight Privateer matches.

Defne Eciroglu crested 1,900 career assists after the Privateers' last match. Eciroglu needs 96 more assists to accomplish 2,000 for her career. That would make her the seventh Privateer in program history and the first since 2018 to achieve 2,000 career assists on the Lakefront.

The Privateers are 2-15 all-time against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Both wins have come at home with the last happening in 2022. Against UTRGV, the Privateers are 1-3 all-time with their lone win in the series history coming at home in 2015.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 4-4 in conference play and currently in a three-way tie for fifth place in the Southland standings. The Islanders have lost three straight against Northwestern State, Lamar and Stephen F. Austin. On the season, the Islanders have the fourth best attack percentage in the conference. Virginia Van Der Weff is fourth in the league in hitting percentage at .347.

UTRGV tops the league standings at 8-0 heading into the week. The Vaqueros have only dropped two sets since conference play began in late September.
