Privateers Travel to HCU, Follow Up With Home Match Against UIW

NEW ORLEANS – The LSU New Orleans Privateers volleyball team will have a split week that starts on the road with a Thursday trip to HCU. The Privateers follow with a home match on Saturday against UIW. Both matches will be carried on ESPN+.

The Privateers went 0-2 in their first home conference week with losses to Nicholls and McNeese, both in four sets. Against McNeese, the Privateers averaged over 15 kills per set after the opening set. Armie Hall had 18 kills to lead the offense.

Hall is at 229 kills through 19 matches this season. The true freshman is currently on pace for 349 kills by the end of the regular season. That would be the second highest single-season total by a Privateer since 2009, only behind Ehize Omoghibo who had 356 kills in 2019.

Ava Frerman made her season debut on Sept. 17 against Idaho. Since that match, the freshman outside hitter has recorded 2.72 digs per set, which included a season-high 18 digs against East Texas A&M.

LSU New Orleans is 2-18 all-time against HCU and their last win against the Huskies was in 2019. Their only win in Houston in the all-time series happened in 2018. Against UIW, the Privateers are 6-12 all-time. The Cardinals won the lone meeting last season in San Antonio.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
HCU is in the same boat as the Privateers as both are on the hunt for their first conference win. The Huskies were in a tough battle against SFA, but fell on the short end 3-1 last Saturday. Allana Archie is ranked seventh in the Southland in hitting percentage at a .301 clip.

UIW is one of two teams in the Southland who have held opponents under a .200 attack percentage this season. Ashton Rogers is second in the conference in digs with 4.66 per set. The Cardinals are currently in a three-way tie for second in the conference standings at 5-1.
