New Orleans Privateers Logo Ranks in Top 10

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The new Privateers logo, which was unveiled in 2013, ranked as the 10th best new logo of the year according to the readers of SportsLogos.net. The Privateers were one of two universities and two New Orleans entities to rank in the Top 10.

"We have received an overwhelmingly positive response to our New Orleans Privateers logos which were launched in July," said Derek Morel, Athletics Director.  "The primary logo and series of secondary logos collectively are the most visible extensions of our brand and positive promotional assets for our university."

The Privateers and New Orleans Pelicans' new logos each cracked the Top 10 board, as the Pelicans finished second with an overall rating of 8.28.  The only other university or college to rank in the top 10 was the University of Creighton, who ranked first.

The Privateers logo, which was unveiled in July and designed by Joe Bosack Graphic Design Co., earned an overall rating of 7.60 by way of votes from readers.  SportsLogos.net  specializes in bringing the latest in sports logos and is in its 16th year of operation.

"Any time you hire a quality designer and an all-around fantastic person such as Joe Bosack, you're guaranteed a high-ranking logo. Joe's one of a handful of artists who just knows what makes a good logo and he puts that into each and every design he's associated with," said Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net and author of the article published about the logo rankings.

The new moniker has garnered praise for its simplicity and its connection to the city.  The new marks also serve as a source of transformation for the Privateers, ushering in a new era for not only athletics but for the university as well.  With the makeover, New Orleans also claimed its rightful place in NCAA Division I and joined the Southland Conference.

"It is our hope we will continue to build significant equity in our athletics logos so that people can easily identify the association between the logos, our athletics program, and our university," added Morel.
