Derrick Joseph

Derrick Joseph is a seasoned Sports Performance Coach, bringing over two decades of expertise training elite athletes. As founder and principal trainer of DeeJoe Fitness, established in 2005, Derrick specializes in strength and conditioning, speed development, injury prevention, and overall athletic performance enhancement. Derrick’s program develops elite athletes to improve their game by becoming faster, stronger, and sharper, mentoring individuals and optimizing team performance with a whole athlete approach.

Derrick comes to the University of New Orleans from the University of Loyola (New Orleans), where he served as Men’s Basketball Performance Coach from 2015 through 2024. Working alongside Coach Stacy Hollowell, the basketball team saw record-breaking seasons across their tenure and won the 2022 NAIA National Championship, the second in school history and the first since 1945.

Derrick is a New Orleans native who was a top recruited quarterback at Archbishop Shaw and went on to attend Tulane University (1998-2002). At Tulane, Derrick competed in both football, where he was part of the 12-0 ‘98 Hall of Fame Tulane Football team, and track & field, where he still holds top-3 sprint times. He graduated with a major in computer information systems and a minor in media arts.

Derrick hails from strong athletic and coaching lineage, accompanying his brother, Terry, Defensive Pass Game Coordinator at the New Orleans Saints; cousin, Vance, Defensive Coordinator at the Denver Broncos; cousin, Mickey, Head Football Coach at Grambling University; and cousin, Sammy, Nickels Coach at University of Louisiana-Monroe.
