Privateers Throw Block Party to Celebrate Homecoming

BOX SCORE

NEW ORLEANS – With homecoming festivities taking place outside of Lakefront Arena, the LSU New Orleans basketball team (1-1, 0-0 Southland) held its own block party on Corchiani Court, defeating the Loyola Wolf Pack (4-1, 0-0 SSAC) 90-65 in front of 2,472 fans on Saturday afternoon.

Solomon Ominu blocked four Loyola shots and altered several others. Enzo Boudouma and Marcus McDonald each blocked two, while Kedrick Osby added one. All told, the Privateers' nine blocks were the most by the team since an 11-block performance against (then) Houston Baptist in 2019.

The Privateers used their physical advantage to outrebound the Wolf Pack 58-30 and outscore their top-15 NAIA opponent 58-22 in the paint. Loyola entered the game averaging 46.0 rebounds per game and had been outrebounding its opponents by more than 12 per game.

Four of LSU New Orleans' five starters scored in double figures. Kahlil Singleton led the way with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Singleton was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line and has now made 23 straight free throws dating back to Jan. 30, a stretch spanning 11 games dating back to his time at Canisius.

Boudouma scored a career-high 18 points after making a team-high eight baskets on 12 attempts. The sophomore also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go with three assists, two steals and two blocks.

Freshman Marcus McDonald, making his first career start, finished with 16 points on five made baskets. McDonald led the team with four assists and had a pair of steals. Osby finished with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor.

Reece Seicshnaydre hit an off-balance shot in the lane that seemed to give Loyola momentum right before halftime. Singleton responded and knocked down a corner 3-pointer and drew a foul from Seicshnaydre with 3.6 seconds left in the first half. Kahlil's free throw was good, and the Privateers took an 11-point lead into the locker room.

LSU New Orleans made almost 60% of its shots in the second half (20-of-35) and outscored Loyola 48-34 on its way to victory. The Wolf Pack never got closer than seven in the second half, with the largest Privateer lead being 27 with 5:43 to play. NOLA led by more than 20 for the final 8:17 of the contest.

Seicshnaydre led Loyola with 14 points and made four 3-pointers. International duo Kosta Bjelicic and Georgios Vassilakis both had six rebounds for the Wolf Pack.

The Privateers return to the court in a week when they host SUNO at Lakefront Arena on Nov. 14. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m., with the game set to air on ESPN+ and locally on Heaven 106.1 FM.
