NATCHITOCHES, La. – Mitchell Sanford and Miguel Useche both added an award to their illustrious 2024 campaigns. Sanford earned First Team All-Louisiana honors while Useche scored Second Team honors as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association baseball teams were announced on Tuesday morning.

Sanford gives the Privateers a third consecutive season with a First Team All-Louisiana selection (Amani Larry-2022, Brandon Mitchell-2023). That is added on to his honors from the Southland Conference and American Baseball Coaches Association.

For the season, Sanford hit .381 with 21 doubles, 15 home runs and 68 RBI. It was the second consecutive season that Sanford had at least 60 RBI after he reached that mark in 2023. Sanford also slugged .708 in 57 games started and added 18 stolen bases in 19 attempts. On top of all the awards he won, Sanford also took All-Defensive honors for his six outfield assists on the year.

Useche ended his career tied for the program's doubles mark with 54. That was a mark reached after the senior catcher finished the season with the most doubles in the Southland in 2024 after collecting 22.

Miguel hit .349 with five home runs and 45 RBI. He also had more walks (42) than strikeouts (38). Useche earned the same honors as Sanford: he notched First Team All-Southland and All-Defensive. Useche earned Second Team ABCA All-Region.

For head coach Blake Dean, he has now coached 13 All-Louisiana selections (seven First Team and six Second Team).

LSU nearly swept the superlatives. Tommy White won Hitter of the Year while Luke Holman won Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year. Steven Milam took Freshman of the Year. Jeff Willis of LSU-Eunice won Coach of the Year honors.
