GAME 2: Basketball Looks to Spoil Northwestern’s Home Opener on Big Ten Network

EVANSTON, Ill. – The new Welsh-Ryan Arena is the site of tomorrow's Big Ten Network televised basketball game between the University of New Orleans (1-0) and Northwestern University (0-0).
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday. For fans traveling to the Evanston area, rally towels commemorating the new arena will be available.

THE TIP
• The Privateers dominated their way to a season opening victory over Spring Hill College.
• Led by Ezekiel Charles' and Amari Haynes' 17 points, New Orleans dished out 22 assists on 32 field goals.
Jorge Rosa and Bryson Robinson were on the 2016-17 Southland Conference Championship team that played in the old Welsh-Ryan Arena in December of 2016. The duo played two minutes apiece in the game.
• The Privateers will be the season opener for Northwestern. The Wildcats hosted McKendree in an exhibition Friday, winning 83-44.
• Thursday is the first official game in the new Welsh-Ryan Arena.
• Northwestern went 15-17 last season in the fifth year under Chris Collins.
• This is the second of four games in a nine-day span for UNO. Following Thursday's game, New Orleans will return to the Big Easy to host Pensacola Christian Monday and then head to Alabama for a Wednesday tilt at UAB.
• The club returns 10 student-athletes that received playing time last season, including redshirt senior Rosa. Rosa scored 10 points in the season opener at St. John's before sustaining an injury in a start at Oakland.
 
THE SERIES
The Privateers and Wildcats battled twice in the last three seasons and overall, Northwestern leads the series 3-0, with two wins coming in Illinois.
